New King Of Scotland Congratulations go to Austrian Bernd Wiesberger, who became the golfing King of Scotland with a thrilling playoff victory at the Scottish Open. On a tense afternoon of sporting action (anyone see the cricket? How about the tennis?), golf played its part as Frenchman Benjamin Herbert fired in a final round nine-under-par to tie with Wiesberger at the top of the standings on -22 and force a playoff. It took three holes and a couple of lucky escapes for Wiesberger to emerge victorious as Herbert missed two opportunities to seal the deal for himself before scuppering a straightforward putt for par at the 18th to hand Wiesberger his sixth European Tour title and second win of 2019.
Wiesberger’s win could not have come at a better time as he heads to Royal Portrush this week for The 148th Open Championship. |
